The Stargazey
The Stargazey by Martha Grimes

This book is read by Donada Peters. It is on a audiobook by Books on Tape, P.O. Box 7900, Newport Beach, CA 92658.

Richard Jury sees what he learns later is the beginning of a murder as he takes an aimless ride on one of London's double decker buses. I find pleasure in hearing a book read by a person with a British accent. I love to hear some common vocabulary pronounced slightly differently than the same word in the American dialect.

A Painted House
A Painted House by John Grisham

This book is read by David Lansbury. A very effective "reader". It is on a audiobook by Bantam Doubleday Dell Audio Publishing1540 Broadway, 15th Floor, New York, NY 10036

It is told mostly in the first person by a small 7 year old boy and his life on a cotton farm in Arkansas in 1952. It told about the picking of the cotton and related information about the lives of the Mexicans and hill people who were hired to help with the picking. It tells about trips to town for the selling of the cotton and the visits to the movie theater and a circus. It tells about concern about the weather. There was a lot of talk about baseball too. Luke, the 7 year old, wants to play for the Cardinals. I felt transported to that era and place in the country.

A Time to Kill by John Grisham

This book is read by Alexander Adams. It is published by Books on Tape. In Clanton, Mississippi a ten year old black girls is raped by two drunk white men. She is raped repeatedly, beat and kicked and dragged with a rope in the plan to kill her. A car went by so the hangging was stopped but she was thrown in a ditch to die. She was found and taken home by some fisherman. Her father was so enraged that he went to the courthouse and shot the two men. His trial was very controversial. His lawyer was threatened repeatedly; he sent his wife out of town. This was a very strong story and held my interest to the end.

The Runaway Jury by John Grisham

This book is read by Frank Muller. It is published by Recorded Books. This is another one of those books that I couldn't wait to get back to when I had to put it down. It was enlightening to see just some of the ways a jury can be manipulated to get the results someone wants. It is hard to believe that so many people can be led to one conclusion. One young man and woman controlled happenings to get the outcome that they wanted from a jury which was deciding the outcome of a case about smoking.

Moon Music
Moon Music by Faye Kellerman

The reader for this book is Bernadette Dunne. It is a Books on Tape audio book, P.O. Box 7920, Newport Beach, CA 92658. For more information or if you wish to add to your library contact Books on Tape.

The story takes place along the Las Vegas strip. The body of a young and beautiful showgirl is found away from the city. Detective Sergeant Romulus Poe takes over this investigation into an animalistic-type destruction of the body. He recollects that this murder closely matches an earlier one. His team includes Rukmani Kalil, his girlfriend and a forensic pathologist. Their leads are very cold and then the killer strikes again. This second crime gives them the break they need. One interesting thing in the story is that Sergeant Poe is a twin. He and his brother had a growing problem in their youth. Their mother was finally convinced that she should have them put on growth hormones. She decided to do one child at a time feeling that it was safer that way. Romulus' brother, Remus was the first to use the hormone. Something went heywire and Remus grew to the size of a giant. Romulus was given hormones later as a child and grew to a normal height. Another thing I liked about the book was the descriptions of the desert heat, I mean how the author used words to describe the heat. The book did, however, take an unusal turn that kind of unsettled me.

Faye Kellerman writes an interesting mystery writter.

Prayers for the Dead by Faye Kellerman

The reader for this book is Buck Schimer. It is published by Brilliance Audio. Heart surgeon, Dr. Azor Sparks, is murdered. Peter Decker undertakes the task of determining who killed him. Decker's wife, Rena, realizes after Decker tells her about his investigations that she knows the family from several years before. There is one point in the story where there is a description of how Decker tries to save a man's life after he had been shot. That description was so gripping I couldn't put the book down to answer the phone or anything else. The story includes a priest, the dead man's six children, a group of motor cyclists and the doctor's partner. Very good story.

The reader for this book is Alexander Adams. It is published by Random House AudioBooks.

This story is about a young boy who is abused by his mothers live in boy friend and decides to run away before he is killed. He witnesses a murder, he is threatened with a rape by an older man AND his wife, he finally comes to a place to find safety in a synagogue. In the mean time a female police officer gets closer and closer to finding him in her investigation of the murder Billy witnessed. This was very interesting, informative and thought provoking.

The Mark
The Mark-The Beast Rules the World by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins
This is last of the series (so far) called "Left Behind". The book is read by Frank Muller. It is published by Recorded Books, LLC.

The series is a story about what could happen to the people left behind after the Rapture. I have found this series to be very intriguing and each book has held my interest to the point of not wanting to put them down. This, the eighth in the series, is about a period in time when the people who would follow the devil would receive a mark of the beast on their forehead or arm. Those who do not receive this mark can not buy food, clothing or any other needed material. Actually, if they refuse to get the mark they will be sent to a guillotine. This series has topped the best-seller lists across the country. From what I have read, sales have reached the tens of millions and been the biggest selling of this type of book of all time.
